Since I am an especially popular person in the twitterverse, there may be some unrelated posts here ''he says with tongue-in-cheek.'' The blog mentioned here is actually curated by my daughter. My son also curates a blog called "Video-A-Day." - dfw

I am very unhappy that I was only able to attend the first day of this one. Plus! These conferences are so much more valuable because they do not end. With blogs, and twitter, and Facebook, the conversations begun at these conferences continue on case in point! ;-) - dfw

It is difficult to imagine what it was like when all I had was a 1961 set of Comptons' encyclopedias and a small library that clear across town. What was the point of asking questions, when the answer were so hard to come-by. Today, answers are free -- but are they? :-) What is the cost today, of getting answers. ->The difference is that you go to the lab to do computer work. What education needs to realize is that computers that is to say networked, digital & abundant information are an integral part of learning today, in and out of school. But when teachers come to staff development sessions without computers and without expecting to have GOOD access to the Internet, then it indicates loud and clear that THEY JUST DON'T GET IT. - dfw

->It's one of the reasons that I push this idea of "teacher as master-learner" so hard. ->But isn't that what it is. And I've wondered if it might become a primary function of schools to help our students to curate their own personal digital libraries. They would graduate not simply with a degree, but also with a library to continue to grow. - dfw

->I need to look into this. There also use to be an open source tool that some schools were running on their own servers. The real power of DIIGO (and Delicious), in my opion, is that they are social. I have access to my library, but also access to the libraries of all other DIIGO users, all logically interconnected through our tags. - dfw
Added lines 167-168:
->..and pretending that we do is actually detrimental to our students education. We complain when they believe what they find on the Net. But isn't that what we teach them, to believe what we say and believe what's in the textbook. We surround them with information that is unquestioned, and then expect them to be discerning with the information is questionable. We need to teach with questionable materials so that they develop the habits of questioning. - dfw

Added lines 189-190:
->Why did you tell them not to use it. It's value is that Wikipedia is questionable. We should not be teaching them to '''assume''' the authority of the information that they encounter. We need to get them in the habit of '''proving''' the authority. - dfw
Added lines 195-196:
->Another thing that's kinda cool about Wikipedia is tracking its edits. Look at the first entry on a topic and then click through all of the edits. It's like archeology, examining and thinking through the reasons why people made the edits that they did. - dfw

->Yes! Yes! Yes! If our students are not learning what they can do with knowledge, then they aren't becoming educated. They are just becoming little libraries. Can you create your own # on twitter?
26 Apr 2013 - 20:21:59

->Absolutely! You just start tweeting with the tag. If the theme catches on, others will use it as well. Its one of the more interesting aspect of Twitter, which, let's face it, is a pretty simplistically boring concept. The concept of hash tags were invented by users, not Twitter. - dfw
